JOSHUA L. CHAMBERLAIN AND OTHER ALUMNI OF BOWDOIN COLLEGE
(1828-1914) Union brigadier general of the 20th Maine whose valiant defense of Little Round Top prevented the Confederates from turning the line at Gettysburg. Chamberlain was also present at Lee's surrender at Appomattox. A large vintage album from the 1872 reunion at Bowdoin College, filled signatures of more than 30 luminaries of the nineteenth-century who attended the institution. Each signatory pens a sentiment on a lefthand page and their corresponding albumen portrait is affixed opposite. Includes: JOSHUA L. CHAMBERLAIN, J. P. SANGER, GEORGE E. ADAMS, E. H. Accompanied by a printed copy of the "Address Delivered Before the Association of the Alumni of Bowdoin College" by George Prentiss, Aug. 8, 1861. Album cover disbound with boards worn, interior very clean. Overall very good condition.
