Joseph Wheeler 1836-1906 Confederate major general, Fighting Joe was a brilliant cavalry officer who raided Rosecrans at Chattanooga and harassed Shermans army through Georgia and the Carolinas. A.L.S. 2pp. 4to., Mexico City, Dec. 24, 1904, to his daughters. Wheeler writes: Christmas eve and Mexico is very gay and festive the President and his wife wrote me a beautiful letter... we are organizing a Maxim gun company and have with us five Mexicans, all of whom have great wealth With holograph envelope addressed to his daughters in Wheeler, Alabama, thus signing his last name twice thereon.
