Description:

JOSEPH GOEBBELS
(1897-1945) Nazi Minister of Propaganda with Hitler from the earliest days, a master of manipulation of the masses who took his life and those of his family members in the last days of the war. GOEBBELS ANTICIPATES THE ALLIED INVASION OF FRANCE Important content and association T.L.S. on his official Reichsminister of Propaganda letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Berlin, Feb. 4, 1944 to ALFRED ROSENBERG (1893-1946), Nazi leader considered the ideologist of Nazism, Reichsminister of the eastern territories, later executed at Nuremberg. Goebbels anticipates an upcoming attack from the west, and advises against irritating and alienating the coming invaders. He writes concerning a planned propaganda exposition on America and France, in part: '...I've reconsidered the question of whether we should put on the exhibition 'France and America' at this time...Just before an expected invasion I can't see any propaganda value at all in such an exhibition. Because you expressed your view that the Military Commander In Chief in France [Gen. Gerd von Rundstedt] was particularly eager to have this exposition open at this time, I consulted him too, because I share your opinion that he's the one best qualified to say whether the exposition is suitable right now. The military C in C informed me that it was his very definite opinion that not only did he not want the exhibition at this time, but also that he considers the present time unfavorable and undesirable in every respect. He said that the exhibition was totally out of the question before the conclusion of the expected invasion...' Punch holes to left edge, several small ink and pencil dockets and light folds, otherwise fine condition.
