Description:

(1897-1945) Nazi Minister of Propaganda with Hitler from the earliest days, a master of manipulation of the masses who took his life and those of his family members in the last days of the war. War-date T.L.S. on his official letterhead as Reichsminister of Public Enlightenment Propaganda, 1p. 4to., Berlin, Feb. 12, 1941 to ALFRED ROSENBERG (1893-1946), Nazi leader considered the ideologist of Nazism. In part: "...On my behalf Secretary Dr. Schlosser had a meeting with playwright Langenbeck regarding his drama 'The Sword.' Langenbeck explained he was not thinking...about a key play, but he was willing to withdraw the piece from distribution and the theater. The play herewith will disappear...without causing a stir..." Some edge wear, underlining, a paperclip stain and docket by Rosenberg, still very good. Curt Langenbeck (1906-1953) was one of the foremost German dramatic playwrights of the era. As the Nazis came into power, he openly debated other playwrights, most notably Josef Magnus Wehner, on the most acceptable forms of pro-Nazi drama and tragedy. His "The Sword" so offended Alfred Rosenberg that Rosenberg demanded it be banned. It was, and Langenbeck joined the Kriegsmarine and ceased writing until 1948.
