(1898 - 1945) Nazi leader, Reichskommissar for Norway. Declared martial law in Trondheim in 1942, and ordered the destruction of Telavag. Committed suicide by detonating 50 kg of dynamite in a bunker. Fascinating T.L.S. "Josef" on his official "Der Reichskommissar" letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Oslo, May 19, 1943 to PAULA LUTZE (d. 1954), whose husband VIKTOR LUTZE, commander of the S.A., had been killed in an auto accident which also killed one daughter and injured another only 18 days earlier. Terboven writes, in part: "...Dear Paula!...I suggest that I take you, the boy Erich, and the nanny north on the 27th. I quarter you in my townhouse located at the fjord. Here you are completely by yourself and have contact with others only as you desire...For that reason, I do not consider it necessary for you to come here under an assumed name...Personally, I am not only very happy to serve, but I am also convinced that Viktor would have been fully in line with my proposal...I hope you have survived everything in good health and that the junior is also on the path of continuous improvement..." File holes, else fine condition. Lutze's entire family was with him when his car crashed as he recklessly sped on a country road.
