JOSEF STALIN
(1879 - 1953) Soviet Premier and dictator who reorganized the government and army through bloody purges of his political enemies, allied with the Nazis who then turned on him and invaded the Soviet Union, costing 20 million lives. Rare, war-date typed D.S. in bold, indelible orange pencil, 2pp. large 4to., [Moscow], Oct. 8, 1941. The order, which may have supplemented previous instructions, reads, in part: '...To the Chief of the Main Directorate of Human Resources of the NCO and the Chiefs of the Main Directorates, the infantry schools, which are newly formed and transferred to a new state, shall be filled with a full complement of command and control personnel. 5. The head of the Main Directorate of Formation and Replenishment of the Red Army Troops to fill the infantry schools with cadets. 6. The Chief Quartermaster of the Red Army, the Head of the Financial Directorate of the NCO of the USSR and the corresponding heads of the Dental Departments of the NCO to ensure that schools are formed and new staffs transferred with the required property and allowances. PEOPLE'S DEFENSE COMMISSIONER OF THE C.C.C.P [Signed] I. STALIN. One light horizontal fold, minor chips along one margin, else near fine.
