JONATHAN TRUMBULL JR.
(1740 - 1809) American soldier and politician, served in the Continental Army as a paymaster; comptroller of the Treasury 1778-1779; appointed secretary and aide-de-camp to General George Washington in 1781; elected to the First, Second, and Third Congresses. Partly-printed D.S. 1p. 8vo., Hartford, Feb. 5, 1786 an order to pay Humphrey Ball "...thirty one pounds fifteen shillings eight pence... as stated by the Committees of the State and of the Army..." Trumbull signs on behalf of Ball. Rough margins usual folds, else very good. Offered together with a second manuscript D.S. 1p. 4to., [Hartford], July 3, 1788 a receipt for "...nine Certificates in favor of David Trumbull Esqr. payable out of the Civil List, amounting to One Hundred and Seventy One pounds..." Trumbull signs "for his Br[other] David Trumbull" Usual folds, else fine. Together, two pieces.
