Fine content A.D.S. "Jon'th Trumbull" as Deputy Governor, Lebanon, July 1, 1768, a 19-line amendment and notes made to a list concerning tax abatements to be granted various qualified individuals living in Lebanon. The body of the document is in the hand of WILLIAM WILLIAMS (1731-1811), Signer of the Declaration of Independence and member of the Continental Congress. Williams pens the 2pp. 4to. Document, Lebanon, July 1, 1768 addressed to Joseph Talcott, "Treasurer of the Colony of Connecticut" requesting tax abatements "out of ye Rate Bill of Mr. Seth Bartles Collector of ye Colony Rate of ye Town of Lebanon for the year 1764". Williams notes his comments for some of those applying for abatements: "...These are all very poor, quite unable to pay their Rates & we doubt not any of them may safely take the Oath of poor prisoners...gone to N. Scotia...Dead & left no estate...all gone out of the government, years since, left no estate & we believe carried none with them..." Also signed with an "X" by a justice of the peace whose mark grazes Trumbull's signature. Very good. Both Williams and Trumbull were residents of Lebanon. $200-300
