Engrossment has lightened a bit, signatures less so, a clean fold crosses Johnson's signature, document a bit cockled otherwise quite clean and bright. Edie had a distinguished career during the Civil War. His valiant efforts averted great loss of life when the Allegheny Arsenal exploded on Sep. 17, 1862. He was then transferred to Meade's staff where he served the general for the balance of the war.
