Description:

JOHNNY CASH'S CUSTOM-MADE WALKING CANE
JOHNNY CASH (1932 -2003) American country music and rock music icon, a deep-throated, rebellious singer and songwriter and the husband of June Carter Cash. From his early days as a rockabilly and rock & roll pioneer in the 1950's, to his decades as an international representative of country music, to his resurgence to fame in the 1990's as a living legend and icon, Johnny Cash influenced countless artists from many musical genres. Cash was a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Johnny Cash, "the man in black," succumbed to complications of autonomic neuropathy associated with diabetes in 2003. His declining health in the late 1990's eventually caused him to rely on walking with a cane, before he became wheel-chair bound. Offered here is an ornate wooden walking cane with a full standing owl carved into the top and a rattlesnake wrapped about the shaft of the cane below. The hand-carved and painted cane is 35" high with "Burch 82" carved just beneath the owl. This is a well-done piece of art, down to the feathers on the owl, and even individuals scales on the snake! The cane, believed to have been Cash's favorite, was one of seven offered by Sotheby's in September 2004 during the Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash estate sale. It garnered considerable publicity when it sold for $78,000! The cane is encased in a beautiful, 12" x 12" x 39" plexiglas display.
