Description:

(JOHN YATES BEALL)
(1835-1865) Confederate spy who was the only naval officer authorized by the Confederate government to organized and led a partisan band against the Federal navy. After several failed missions he was finally captured in New York state and executed. It is believed that his death led to Booth's assassination of Lincoln. A war-date CDV size albumen photograph on thin paper mount, most likely done as a memorial item after the war in remembrance of the slain young man. Retouched a bit on the chest, no backstamp. Overall very good. A very rare pose!
