Description:

(1942 - 1994) Notorious mass murderer of over thirty young men whom he buried beneath his home, executed after many appeals and postponements. T.L.S. "John", 2pp. 4to., Menard Correctional Center, Aug. 8, 1985. Gacy continues his correspondence with our consignor, a regular pen-pal, sending him a book on the art of Salvador Dali (not present), and continues, in small part: "...A lock down at a prison is the stopping of almost all movement, until they have completed the shakedown. We have shake down anytime they feel there is a need for it. Which for me doesn't bother me, since I am not inclined to contraband in the cell. But they got wind they would find weapons and a takeover was planned, so then came the major shakedown. And Yes they did find weapons, and Hack saw blades in the cells. Same people every time, and we all pay for it. So you want to know why I am not allowed to do hand written letters, while being an attorney rule, its a good ides. First off a type written letter can not be used against me, because you would have to prove that I wrote it. Not that I write anything that I would not defend. The second reason, being I am considered a celebrity, and as such samples of my handwriting by collectors is at a premium. I laugh everytime I hear that bull shit, but that's the reason given me for the stolen mail. In the beginning most of my mail, outgoing was being stolen because they thought I was signing them in whole. My signature in the collector's market is going for supposedly for $350.00, so that's why I print my name in signing in ink. I know it's stupid, but even with letters to my family they are typed and never signed in whole...[all sic]" He signs at the conclusion in blue ink. Shows original mailing folds, else fine. A retained copy of the letter to which Gacy is responding is also present, as is the original transmittal envelope.
