JOHN WANAMAKER
(1838-1922) American merchant, religious leader, civic and political figure, considered by some to be the father of modern advertising and a pioneer in marketing. Lot of two signed pieces, includes a T.L.S. on his business letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Philadelphia, June 5, 1895 to Frederick L. Chapman in Chicago. In part: '...I am very much interested in the work of the Boys' Brigade which is not far from at its best in the church to which I belong; but I have not seen my way clear to accept the Presidency of the National Organization. I will consider it...' Sold with a separate signature. Very good. The Boys' Brigade is an international interdenominational Christian youth organization, conceived by the Scottish businessman Sir William Alexander Smith to combine drill and entertaining activities with Christian values. Today it has 750,000 members.

Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight.
