JOHN W. MCCLURE
(1862-1865) Union captain and assistant quartermaster general assigned at New Orleans. Interesting archive of ten documents signed by John W. McClure, consisting of Special Orders, vouchers, requisitions and receipts. Includes: D.S., 4to., July 17, 1863, authorizing the sale of confiscated rebel property at public auction, being the household effects of "Mr. M. Hardy by H.H. McLean….for account of captain J.W. McClure, AQM."; Special Order No. 28, A.M.S., 1p. 4to., New Orleans, Dec. 14, 1862, Headquarters Banks Expedition, assigning an officer for immediate duty in the city of New Orleans, signed by Richard B. Irwin, staff officer for General Auger; a scarce quartering order (No. 21), being a partly printed D.S., attesting to the fact that "no quarters owned or hired by the public at [New Orleans]..." which could be assigned to George Sternburg for the period Feb. 1, 1862 - Feb. 28, 1862, by order of Major General Banks; a folio D.S. March, 1863, a pay voucher authorization for compensation for two New Orleans residents hired as teamsters. Interestingly, their pay rate was established at $8.33 for a ten day journey. With six additional documents that should be examined. Condition varies from very good to excellent.
