JOHN T. MORGAN
(1824 - 1907) Confederate brigadier general of the 51st Alabama, he fought at Bull Run and Chickamauga, and harassed Sherman from Atlanta to Savannah. Fine content war date A.L.S. 'John T. Morgan Col. 1st Ala. Partisans', 1p. 4to., 'Camp at Stewart's Creek', Nov. 20, 1862 to A.A.G. Capt. D. G. Reid. In part: '...[I send] some charges and specifications against Lt. W. W. Wilson. I desire him to be put through all these charges as soon as practicable. This is the first instance of such an officer in my regiment and I desire it to be the last. Four of my men were captured by the enemy while on picket recently under circumstances that indicated bad faith on their part. They were paroled a few days since while I was on duty at the front. They took advantage of my absence to slip off home. I wish to detail an officer to go after them & arrest them and also two other men who deserted...Having heard some rumors this evening of the approach of the enemy, I concluded not to leave until tomorrow...' Fine condition.
