Description:

John T. Morgan 1824-1907 Confederate brigadier general of the 51 st Alabama, he fought at Bull Run and Chickamauga, and harassed Sherman from Atlanta to Savannah. A.L.S. on Senate letterhead, 3pp. 4to., Washington, Mar. 26, 1894 to Treasurer Daniel Morgan. Morgan writes a glowing letter of recommendation for a lady attendant at St. Elizabeth Hospital for the Insane. In part: ...she asks for relief as a soldier asks a discharge with a pension, after long service she deserves such friendly consideration... she proposes to keep on working for what she gets... very earnest sympathy in her wish, after so long, to leave the society of the insane [and] enjoy the opportunity of working in company with those whose infirmities are not a constant appeal to her pity and a constant threat to her life or personal safety. Small hole in top margin of one page with no effect on text few mounting remnants on verso.
