JOHN T. FORD
(1829 - 1894) American theater owner in whose theater Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1864. As a result of the notoriety of the crime, Ford's career was nearly ruined. Ironic association A.L.S. on his personal letterhead, 1p. 4to., Baltimore, Aug. 29 [1888] to "McVicker", offering the services of actor John Sleeper Clarke, who he believes: "...can be made in standard comedy one of the most profitable attractions of the period...His company absolutely first class...". Fine. Clarke, an early friend of John Wilkes Booth, had married his sister Asia. Booth's first professional stage performance was a benefit for Clarke in Baltimore in 1855.
