JOHN T. FORD
(1829 - 1894) American theater owner in whose theater Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1864. As a result of the notoriety of the crime, Ford's career was nearly ruined. Nice content A.L.S. 4pp. 8vo., Baltimore, June 28, 1858, to Mr. Wright, in small part: "...In regard to the promoter he is quite a young man and has one acted as promoter during the present season yet he is quite proficient and attentive. I have no objection to giving him mine [?] rather than lose him. His name is Marshall. I have a very good corps de Ballet. My intention is to commence on Sept. 5th with the [?] to play them three weeks and then produce the 'Tempest' which will give us ample time for rehearsals. I propose offering an engagement to Chas. Wheatleigh for "Caliban' and 'Bottoni' as I desire to do Midsummers during the Christmas Holydays...I have the music of 'The Tempest'...My Ballet sing faily and now I want a young lady pretty and young to play Small Walking Ladies...Mr. Barron is only good for Walking Gents...".
