(1740 - 1795) American Revolution major general captured at Long Island and exchanged, he later wintered at Valley Forge, and was abandoned by D'Estaing to face the British at Newport. Manuscript D.S. "Jno Sullivan MGnl" 1p. oblong 4to., Providence, Dec. 7, 1778 ordering that "...Ensign Jabez Baney of Col. Smith's Regt Seventy nine Pounds for this Sustenance Money while recruiting from the 1st of March 77 to the 9th of Agt. 78 and for recruiting 47 Men..." Mounted to a larger sheet, partial fold separation and marginal wear, light soiling, else very good.
