Description:

(1751-1838) British barrister and politician, served as Lord Chancellor of Great Britain between 1801 and 1806 and again between 1807 and 1827. Good pair of signed items, includes: A.L.S. "Eldon", 2pp. 8vo., [n.p., n.d.], to a Mr. S. Fanell. Eldon offers a "...determination upon the Attendance of Solicitors...", in part: "...That many of their clerks are very reputable Individuals I have no doubt - that there are most heavy Complaints of the total Incompetency of many Persons, who attend as clerks, is, I am afraid, equally beyond doubt; It seems somewhat difficult to maintain that a Person should be a Solicitor of the Court, who has elsewhere too much business to allow him to do his duty in the court, of which he is a solicitor..." He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows original mailing folds with mounting remnants and a pencil biographical inscription to the verso, and with slight toning and foxing, else very good. WITH: A.L.S. "Eldon", 2pp. 8vo., [n.p., n.d.], to an unnamed correspondent, on the subject of a jointure placed upon an estate. He signs at the conclusion in black ink. Shows minor toning, with a mounting remnant and a pencil biographical inscription to the verso, else very good.
