(1833 - 1916) Confederate officer, 'The Grey Ghost' led his Partisan Rangers on numerous troublesome raids against Union forces and supply trains. Great content A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Washington, [n.d., but envelope-cancelled Sept. 16, 1915], a letter to his close friends Fannie and Dibrell Crenshaw, who cared for Mosby during the Civil War when he was wounded in Lakeland, VA in Dec. 1864. Written less than one year before his own death, Mosby writes with grief about the death of his own son. In part: '...Thanks for your kind letter of sympathy for me in my sorrow for the loss of my son. It has created a void in my life & while I deeply feel this affliction I shall try to perform the duty which I owe to my children & grandchildren who are living...It will give me great pleasure to see you again. I sent your letter to Lucy Russell to read. My love for you & Dib...' Lucy Russell was the widow of Lt. John Singleton Russell, Mosby's staff officer and daring assistant who commanded Company C of the 43rd Virginia Battalion. Fine condition. Sold with transmittal envelope.

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight.
