Description:

(1767-1848) Sixth President of the United States, Secretary of State under Monroe who principally formulated the Monroe Doctrine. AN INVITATION TO JACKSON'S INAUGURATION Great content manuscript L.S. "J. Q. Adams" as President, 1p. 4to., Washington, Jan. 12, 1829 to Kentucky Sen. John Rowan. In an ornately-penned letter, Adams instructs: "Certain matters touching the Public Good, requiring that the Senate of the United States should be convened on Wednesday, the fourth day of March next...then & there to deliberate on such communications as shall be made to you..." Four toned spots at bottom margin, else fine. On Wednesday, March 4, 1829 Andrew Jackson was sworn-in before Congress and other dignified guests to serve as the seventh president of the United States. Interestingly, Adams had defeated Jackson for the presidency four years earlier.
