Description:

(1745-1833) Revolutionary War Militia Brigadier General and Continental Congressman. Colonel of the Second Regiment, Middlesex County Militia, in 1776, Brigadier General of Militia in 1777 and Deputy Quartermaster General for New Jersey, 1780 to 1783. He was a member of the Continental Congress in 1778 and 1779, delegate to the state constitutional convention which ratified the Federal Constitution in 1790. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., New Brunswick, Mar. 23, 1790 to Rev. John A. Hubner in Bethlehem concerning sending his daughter to a parochial school operated by Hubner. In part: '...when it is so circumstanced that you can receive our little daughter about whom we wrote to you...we shall be happy to commit her to the care of your institution...persuaded from your assurance to do everything in your power for her improvement...' Sold with a 1776 letter to Neilson concerning the sale of gin owned by Neilson, and a 1779 statement of the costs for educating his son and daughter. Three pieces.

Shipping

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
