Description:

JOHN MORTON AND JOHN PENN
JOHN MORTON (1724-1777) Signer of the Declaration of Independence, a representative to the Stamp Act Congress and a delegate to the Continental Congress. JOHN PENN (1729-1795) Last Colonial governor of Pennsylvania, grandson of William Penn, Albany Congress delegate. A rare manuscript document signed by both John Morton as 'John Morton Speaker' and John Penn as Governor, 13pp. 7.75 x 12.75 in. with a separate page bearing filing dockets [Philadelphia, June 29 1775]. A lengthy manuscript document being 'An act for confirming the Estate of Daniel Andrew in & to certain Lands in Amity Township in the County of Berks Whereas the Proprietories of the Province of Pennsylvania by their Patent bearing Date the twenty eighth day of October One thousand seven hundred and one, granted a certain Tract of Land Situate in Amity Town-ship'. The manuscript goes on to follow the various land transfers that have occurred since the initial grant was issued, and petitions Penn to bar any claims on the land by anyone other than Daniel Andrew, the original recipient of the grant. Joseph Shippen's signature on paqe 13 attests that the Governor passed the act on June 29, 1775. Fragile, with chipping along the right margin of all of the pages causing the loss of a few letters of the text, a few fold splits, one old cello tape repair, still quite good.
The document is fragile, with chipping along the right margins of all pages resulting in a few lost letters. Very delicate at folds, with separations
