Description:

John Lennon Signed "Two Virgins" Album
The excessively rare signed album, John Lennon and Yoko Ono's 1968 debut solo album release, "Unfinished Music No. 1: Two Virgins," has been signed by Lennon in blue ballpoint pen on the brown outer rear sleeve. Due to pressure from the record company, distributors and retailers, the original cover sleeve of the experimental, avant-garde album, which shows fully nude standing images of the couple on the front and back, was fitted with an outer brown paper wrapping which revealed only John and Yoko's heads. The reverse of the paper sleeve signed by Lennon quotes verses from Genesis Chapter 2, including the 25th verse, which says" And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed." The signature was obtained during the weekend of May 16-18, 1975, when Lennon was the special guest host of the WFIL Helping Hands Marathon held at WFIL Television Studios in Philadelphia. Lennon signed "Two Virgins" albums are extremely rare, with very few example ever surfacing. In several areas around the country, including 30,000 copies in New Jersey, shipments of the album were impounded under obscenity laws. At the time, Lennon wryly commented that the uproar seemed to have less to do with the explicit nudity, and more to do with the fact the couple were rather unattractive (and the photo unflattering; Lennon described it later as a picture of "two slightly overweight junkies." The album was named "Two Virgins" because immediately after the recording session, John and Yoko consummated their relationship for the first time. LOA from Beatles autograph expert Frank Caiazzo.
