In part: '...Dear Mr. President: The American Army, with the encouragement of the French government, has sent 2,000 students, officers and soldiers, to take advantage of the opportunities in Science, Literature and Art at the University of Paris. To enable these students to profit more fully...it is desired to invite a certain number of eminent men of France, England and the United States, to address them upon some of the grave questions of the present hour. The lectures will take place in the grand amphitheatre of the Sorbonne during the two weeks of the Easter vacation. It will be for the students and for the American Army, as well as for the lecturer of the day, a great honor if you will be present at the first meeting, April 14th, to speak a word of greeting to the American students. I appreciate the heavy responsibilities which engage your attention at the present moment, but I hope that you will find it possible to give to the students this great opportunity...'
