JOHN FRANCIS MERCER
(1759 - 1821) American revolutionary officer, aide-de-camp to Gen. Charles Lee who also led cavalry under the command of Lafayette, resisted the ratification of the Constitution, later became Governor of Maryland. A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., West River, Dec. 31, 1817 to William S. Green the clerk of Annapolis County, Maryland informing him that "...two hundred & twenty five & and eight of Acre of Land were sold by myself & son & daughter to Mr. Clinton..." Light toning and soiling, else very good. Offered together with a manuscript D.S. as Governor, 1p. oblong large 4to. on vellum, [n.p.], Nov. 20, 1801 a land certificate for the purchase of an estate confiscated from a loyalist. With paper and wax seal affixed with a ribbon. Usual folds, moderate foxing, else very good. Together, two pieces.
