Description:

(1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the United States. Kennedy faced-down the Kruschev during the Cuban Missile Crisis, re-invigorated NASA, and signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Assassinated November 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. A great lot consisting of an A.L. and a prescription for Kennedy from his doctor Anne M. Belcher. The A.L. on the verso of Belcher's letterhead, 1p. 4to., [n.p., n.d.], reads in full: ‘My throat seems red – not that it may be infected – but merely strained. Why don't we get Romanier Donnelly here – and perhaps if indicated he can give me penicillin. (2) Someone has to see my throat. Moffett if he can come – otherwise Donnelly'. The prescription from Belcher is 3pp. 18mo., New York, [n.d.], the directions reading in part: ‘...Rest voice completely as much as possible...Relax neck and shoulder muscles...Take one pill 3x a day for hoarseness...Take lozenges every 3 hrs...' Also accompanied by a typed transcript of Kennedy's letter. Two pieces, fine condition. Kennedy suffered from a range of illnesses throughout his life which included autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type 2 with Addison's disease and hypothyroidism. This would fit with the symptoms he was experiencing at the time of this letter prescription, probably during a campaign for office.
