Description:

JOHN F. KENNEDY
(1917 - 1963) Thirty-fifth President of the United States. Kennedy faced-down the Khrushchev during the Cuban Missile Crisis, re-invigorated NASA, and signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Assassinated November 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. Doodles and notes on a 4to. size sheet, Dec. 17, 1954, four days before his release from a New York City hospital for spinal fusion surgery. There are two doodles, one of which is a series of interconnected rectangles and the other being a triangular design with the number ‘694' besides it. Kennedy also adds notes for his then-unpublished book ‘Profiles in Courage' which would garner him a Pulitzer Prize. He writes: ‘Adams – abandoned Federalists in 1808 or 1807', referring to then Senator John Quincy Adams and his support of Thomas Jefferson. He then wrote the first name ‘Ted', referring to his trusted aide at the time, Ted Sorenson, and his Washington area phone number ‘JO8-7730'. He went on to write ‘Why Webster?' likely referring to the famed 19th century senator and orator Daniel Webster, and ‘Senators', which is double underlined. Fine.
