Description:

JOHN F. KENNEDY
(1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the United States. Kennedy faced-down the Kruschev during the Cuban Missile Crisis, re-invigorated NASA, and signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Assassinated. Superb association oversize I.S.P., 14 3/4" x 18 1/2" (sight), a distinguished pose by Bachrach as President, inscribed on the lower mount: "To General Lyman Lemnitzer - a valued defender of the Great Republic - with high esteem - John F. Kennedy". In very fine condition, in a simple black wood frame. Lyman Lemnitzer (1899-1988) served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1960 to 1962 and Supreme Allied Commander, NATO from 1963 to 1969. Lemnitzer and Kennedy had a close professional relationship. Lemnitzer approved the plans known as Operation Northwoods in 1962, a proposed effort to discredit the Castro regime and create support for military action against Cuba by staging false flag operations and develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area. Lemnitzer also suggested such ideas as firing mortar rounds into U.S. military bases, and switching a real plane for a remote controlled plane and blowing it up remotely - blaming it on Cuba, or sinking a U.S. naval vessel stationed near Cuba in order to incite war.
