Description:

JOHN F. KENNEDY
(1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the United States. Kennedy faced-down the Kruschev during the Cuban Missile Crisis, re-invigorated NASA, and signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Assassinated November 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. Excessively rare S.P., 8" x 10" b/w, a stern view of Kennedy's PT-109 while stored above the transport vessel S.S. JOSEPH STANTON at the Norfolk Naval Yard on Aug. 20, 1942 while in preparation for sailing. This rare photograph, bearing the credit line of the U.S. Bureau of Ships on verso (and originally marked "CONFIDENTIAL"), is boldly signed "John F. Kennedy" in black ink at upper-right. Three tiny nicks at right margin, else fine condition. PT-109 was delivered to Lt. John F. Kennedy at Rendova Harbor in the Solomons on Apr. 24, 1943. He and his crew conducted various patrols through July, and on the night of Aug. 1-2 the vessel was rammed and sunk by the Japanese destroyer AMAGIRI. This is likely the only such signed photo of PT-109 in existence.
