Description:

John Adams 1735-1826 Second President of the United States and a drafter of the Declaration of Independence, which he also signed. he later joined Franklin and Jay to negotiate peace with Great Britain. A.L.S. J Adams 1p. 5.5in x 4in, Quincy, Nov. 8, 181 1 Adams writes to Hon. W. Plummer [sic, Plumer], Esq. 1759-1850 , a staunch federalist, member of the Constitutional Convention, and Senator and Governor of New Hampshire. In full: Sir I now and then receive an account from a Gentleman, who informs me that like you as mentioned in your last he has the Patriot [a Boston newspaper] bound in volumes. I hope however that the Correspondence will not be continued much longer. I am weary of it, and my dim Eyes and palsied Fingers admonish me to desist. I make no Promise however and have taken no resolutions. Inclosed is a letter from our Min. at Petersburg [John Quincy Adams] to you. J Adams . On the verso, Adams has addressed the letter to Plumer in New Hampshire, adding 'free and his signature J Adams . Very good condition.
