John A. Letcher 1813-1884 Confederate Governor of Virginia, succeeded by Extra Billy Smith, imprisoned for several months following Virginias surrender. Brief, fine content war-date A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Richmond, 1861 in which Letcher gives advice concerning the sale of a slave: Craft offers Twenty dollars and clothing for Henry. Take it. With transmittal cover bearing a green C.S.A. five cent stamp bearing an image of Jefferson Davis, with round Richmond, Jan. 1 1861 postmark. Very good.
