Description:

JOE FOSS' POST-WAR MILITARY FLIGHT SUIT AND GARRISON CAP
JOE FOSS (1915 - 2003) Top Marine fighter ace of World War II and a Medal of Honor recipient. Foss also served as a general in the Air National Guard, the 20th Governor of South Dakota, President of the NRA, and the first commissioner of the American Football League. A great relic, Foss' personal post-war green flight suit, ca. late 1960s from Foss' service with the Air National Guard. The garment, 100% aramid fiber, is labeled "MIL-C-83141A (USAF)", and shows obvious wear, especially to the velcro patch attachments and sleeve ties. Foss later signed the left breast pocket "Joe Foss" in black marker as provenance. Also present is Foss' simple green garrison cap, no piping, bearing a leather sweat band and rayon lining. Accompanied by a copy of the catalog description from the estate auction of Foss' personal belongings picturing and describing this suit and cap. A great relic.
