Description:

'JEWISH FRONT SOLDIER'S FEDERATION' PLATE, OWNED BY A NOBEL PRIZE WINNER
Following the end of World War I, the Reich Federation of Jewish Front-Line Soldiers ('Reichsbund judischer Frontsoldaten', or RJF) was organized by German-Jewish to demonstrate Jewish loyalty to the former German Empire and German nationalism. Its activities were outlawed by the Nazi government in 1936, and in 1938 it was dissolved. Offered here is a very rare plate from that organization, a white porcelain dinner plate, 9.5 in. diameter with a blue and band gilt designed about the edge, with the organization's 'R J F' emblem. On the bottom, the plate is maker marked by 'Rudolph Konig & Co.' in Berlin. The plate also bears the painted name of its owner, 'Prof. Dr. F. Haber'. Fine condition. FRITZ HABER (1868-1934), was a German chemist who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1918 for his invention of the Haber–Bosch process, a method used in industry to synthesize ammonia. This invention allows large-scale synthesis of fertilizers and explosives. It is estimated that one-third of annual global food production uses ammonia from this process, and that this supports nearly half of the world's population. Haber is also considered the 'father of chemical warfare' for his years of pioneering work developing and weaponizing chlorine and other poisonous gases during World War I. His work was later used, without his direct involvement, to develop Zyklon B, used for the extermination of Jews in gas chambers. He fled Germany after Hitler came to power.
