Description:

JEREMY BENTHAM
(1748 - 1832) English economist and philosopher, most often associated with his theory of utilitarianism. He predated Keynes in his advocacy of expansionist monetary policies to achieve full employment and advocated a range of interventions, including the minimum wage and guaranteed employment. The title page (only) of his volume Observations on the Restrictive and Prohibitory Commercial System published in 1821, measures 5" x 7", signed at top right: "18 March 1821 To Richard Burton from Jeremy Bentham". Two chips to top margin, one just clear of inscription, chip to bottom margin, overall very good.
