Description:

JEAN DE LATTRE DE TASSIGNY
(1889 - 1952) French military hero of World War II, led Free French in the taking of Corsica, then landed in Provence and crossed the Vosges after heavy fighting. His army, now numbering more than 320,000 soldiers took Karlsruhe, Ulm and Stuttgart before crossing the Danube and arriving in Austria. Rare war-date T.L.S. on his letterhead, 1p. 4to., Mar. 26, 1945, in French. He thanks an American supporter for sending a small gift, which he promises to keep as "a good luck piece". He adds: "...I consider your letter as a guage of the union between the French and American populations, following as with one heart the victorious march of our armies who are fighting for the same cause...". Very good.
