JEAN-BAPTISTE CERVONI
(1765-1809) French Revolutionary officer, distinguished himself at Toulon and Loano, chief of staff to Jean Lannes but lost his head to a cannonball at the Battle of Eckmuhl. Manuscript L.S. ‘Cervoni' 1p. 4to., Brussels '29 Germinal de l'an 7' [Apr. 18, 1799] to Louis de Milet de Mureau, Minister of War. As commander-in-chief at Brussels Cervoni begs, for the second time, to be relieved of his duty due to ill health. He seeks a furlough of three months, after which he will be glad to serve out the remainder of his term wherever the government may use him. It seems this petition may have succeeded: Cervoni rejoined the Army of in July 1799. Boldly signed, tape remnants to edge of verso, else near fine.
