JAY GOULD
(1836 - 1892) American financier and "robber baron" who manipulated railway stock prices, looted the Erie Rail Road's treasury, and brought on the panic of "Black Friday". Scarce D.S. 1p. small folio, a stock certificate for 100 shares in the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway Company issued to Gould, New York, April 26, 1881, bearing a stamped cancellation May 6, 1881, boldly signed by Gould on verso. Punch cancel well clear of signature, else very good.
