JAPANESE WAR CRIMINALS SIGNED FLAG
Excessively rare silk Japanese national flag signed by 19 rarer Japanese alleged war criminals, signing their names in both English and kanji characters in black ink. The delicate, approx. 18 x 14 in. flag is in near untouched condition and is signed by a variety of suspected Japanese war criminals, both civilian and military. They include: NOBUSUKE KISHI (1896-1987), the brutal leader of Manchukuo and jailed for war crimes; YOHIO KODAMA (1911-1984), a smuggler who moved opiates to Japan along with goods he was tasked with importing and a major 'yakuza' figure; MICHIYO IWAMURA (1883-1965), Minister of Justice; OTOGORO ISHIDA (1892-1977), Head of Police Administration in China Garrison and Taiwan, Director-General of Military Police; FUMIO GOTO (1884-1980), Interim Prime Minister, 1936 and Tojo's Minister of State; KAZUO AOKI (1889-1982), Minister of Finance and Minister of Greater East Asia; EIJI AMAU (1887-1968), Foreign Ministry spokesman who elucidated the aggressive 'Asian Monroe Doctrine'; KISABURO ANDO (1874-1954), Lieutenant General and a minister without portfolio, tasked by Tojo with hiding the defeat at Midway and was later Home Minister; GENKI ABE (1894-1989), Superintendent-General of the Police, served as Home Minister near war's end; MASAYUKI TANI Minister to Austria and Ambassador to China; KEN TERAJIMA (1882–1972), Vice Admiral and politician, Minister of Communications and Minister of Railways; TSUGUO NAGATOMO (1891-1986), Major General and Head of Military Police in Rana, Kanto, Osaka, and the Central Army District; TOSHIZO NISHIO General and commander of the Imperial Guards Division, Commander 2nd Army (China), Commander in Chief, China Expeditionary Army, Member of the Supreme War Council, and Mayor of Tokyo; RYOICHI SASAKAWA (1899-1995), Japanese nationalist who raised his own paramilitary units, and led a right wing party; IBO TAKAHASHI (1888-1947), Admiral and commander of the 3rd Fleet, led invasions of Bali and Java, later commanded the Kure Naval District; HIROSHI TAMURA (1894-1962), Lieutenant General; MASAYUKI TANI (1889-1962), Diplomat, ambassador to Manchukuo, foreign minister under Tojo; SOEMU TOYODA (1885-1957), Admiral, commander of the Kure Naval District, member of the Supreme War Council, and Commander in Chief of the Combined Chief from May 3, 1944, YOSHIHISA KUZUU, head of the Black Dragon Society, and one 'Lt. Gen. T. Hagatomo'. Very fine condition, probably unique.
