Description:

JAPANESE URGE BRITISH SURRENDER IN BURMA
Scarce piece of Japanese propaganda, 2pp.8vo., in English and air-dropped upon British soldier desperately fighting in Burma, ca. early April,1944. One side of the flyer shows Japanese forces advancing through Burma, threateningChittagong, Imphal, Kohima, and Dimapur, with British forces retreating into India. A smashed British helmet and torn flag appear at bottom. On the reverse is a message to the troops: 'Major-General Wingate was killed. According to a report of the South East Asia Command, your Commander-in-chief, Major-general Charles Wingate was miserably killed in action. He came to Burma as if to be killed. Here we warn you that you will be killed like this desperate Major-general. Now you are like an aeroplane losing its motor or orphans in the jungle. The Japanese Forces want to save you from your dangerous position and to give you an opportunity to return to your sweet home...' The balance of the text is essentially a safe conduct pass. Tones, a split starting along a vertical fold, still very good.
