Description:

JAPANESE PROPAGANDA BROADSIDE
Japanese propaganda broadside printed in English and no doubt intended for Allied prisoners and other anglophones, 8.5 x 13 in., [n.p.], Jan. 6, 1945. This one-sided sheet is headed 'WAR NEWS' and has four news stories including stories describing the U.S. 7th Army 'in Full Retreat', London being attacked by 'meteor bombs', Indian struggle for independence, etc. Of special interest is a large section at the bottom headed 'Nippon Exploits...October 12 to December 31 [1944]' and showing an incredible number of Allied naval vessels of all types sunk and heavily damaged in that short period, and the regions in which they were destroyed. For example, 59 carriers are listed, along with 24 battleships, 50 cruisers, 223 transports, 26 destroyers, etc. Right margin is a bit ragged, some notes in kanji at the top, else very good. In reality, only 17 Allied carriers and six battleships were sunk by the Japanese during the entire war, including those at Pearl Harbor!
