"JANE''S FIGHTING SHIPS 1941"
War-date publication, "Jane''s Fighting Ships 1941", ed. Francis E. McMurtrie (London: Sampson Low, Marston & Co.), 1942, 530pp. oblong 4to., a complete chronicle of ships in service with navies throughout the world in the year 1941, arranged by type utilized by each nation. The publication opens with a list of warships lost during the year, most by enemy action in the course of World War II, with a photo of each. Notable examples of these include the German battleship BISMARCK; the British battleships PRINCE OF WALES and REPULSE, the battlecruiser HOOD, and the Aircraft Carriers ARK ROYAL, COURAGEOUS and GLORIOUS; and the American battleships sunk by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. The main body of the book lists numerous ships which would be sunk or otherwise be very active during the year of 1942, including the Japanese aircraft carriers AKAGI, KAGA, HIRYU and SORYU, all sunk at the battle of Midway; the American carriers LEXINGTON and YORKTOWN, sunk at Coral Sea and Midway, respectively; and the American cruisers QUINCY, ASTORIA and VINCENNES, all lost at Guadalcanal. Each class of ships is illustrated with at least one photograph, with several major classes additionally featuring silhouette and cutaway views. Other particularly interesting items include the presence of the German aircraft carrier GRAF ZEPPELIN, which was built but never entered service, and a note that the U.S. battleship OKLAHOMA, sunk at Pearl Harbor, is to be raised and repaired. Also of interest are the numerous advertisements present at the front of the publication, for such notable shipyards as the Bethlehem Steel Company, the Electric Boat Co., Harland & Wolff, Vosper, Cammel Laird, Thornycroft, and others. Bound in blue cloth board, showing minor wear, with some loosening to the binding, else very good.

International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight.
