JAMES WOLFE RIPLEY
(1794 - 1870) Union brigadier general of ordnance division who also served under Andrew Jackson against the Seminoles. Scarce war-date partly-printed L.S. 1p. 4to., Ordnance Office, Washington, Aug. 7, 1863, a form letter to J. Fales of the Colt Manufacturing Company of Hartford, in part: "...The account of Colts' P.F.A. Mfg. Co received here on the 7 inst has been adjusted for the sum of $17,529.81, and notice will be given you from the Treasury of the United States...". Boldly signed. Folds a bit weakened, with a small split at bottom edge, lightly toned, very good.
