JAMES WILKINSON
(1757-1825) Infamous early American traitor, Revolutionary War officer, aid to Nathaniel Greene, Benedict Arnold, and Horatio Gates, involved in many different controversies during his career, including the Conway Cabal, and Aaron Burr's conspiracy. Later Senior Officer of the Army where he developed a bitter rival with fellow Continental general Anthony Wayne. Great association manuscript D.S. 1p. legal folio., Kentucky, November 27, 1786, a lengthy official court document promising payment for 1,300 pounds to Daniel Brodhead (1736-1809) Continental Army commander during the American War of Independence. Co-signed by the scribe THOMAS TODD (1765-1826), American attorney, one of the founders of Kentucky, and later a Supreme Court Justice. Brodhead was rewarded for his service in the war with large amounts of land in Pennsylvania and Kentucky. Wilkinson at this time was living in Kentucky working hard to achieve its statehood from Virginia, and this promise of payment was possibly in payment for some of Brodhead's land.

Shipping

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
