Description:

JAMES 'WHITEY' BULGER
(1929-2018) Irish-American murderer and former organized crime boss of the Boston Irish Mob crew known as the Winter Hill Gang, later an FBI informant. Indicted for 19 murders and dozens of other felonies, Bulger was sentenced to two consecutive life terms plus five years. Great content A.L.S. 'Jim' on the back of a wanted poster of Bulger, 1p. 4to., [n.p.], November 28, 2016, addressed to 'Jay', possibly his attorney J.W. Carney Jr. In part: '...Everything is fine here, had heart pain, was given an EKG, no heart attack. Friend of mine...Frank Sprenz AKA The Flying Bank Robber died in prison the other day...he was just turned down for parole, my age, not many of us left. Wrote another friend from the Rock he's two years younger, nice guy hope he will be last man standing, I know it won't be me...Never see any MMA, guard told me McGregor won his last fight. I'm glad, may have the Irish youth try to emulate him...have spent hours writing an author in Sweden, he asked me to write things about Alcatraz...Sprenz had quite a career...he was among the men who knew of the escape plot...wish Frank had been with them...' Very fine. Frank Sprenz (1930-2016) known as 'The Flying Bank Robber.' was a member of the FBI's most wanted list in 1958 for breaking out of jail and spending time as a fugitive. He earned his name from constantly robbing banks and at one point stealing a plane in Scranton Pennsylvania. Bulger would be murdered in prison two years later by rival inmates.
