JAMES SULLIVAN
(1744 - 1808) American Revolutionary, a member of the Massachusetts Committee of Safety who later pressed for adoption of the Constitution. A collection of three letters including an A.L.S. 1p. 8vo. with integral address leaf, Biddleford, Mar. 14, 1769 to Charles Cushing in Pownalborough informing him that he had "...Sent your writ Nathaniel Perkins against One Jno Hurley...". Together with an A.L.S. 1p. 8vo. with integral address leaf on verso, Biddleford, Jan. 23, 1770 again to Cushing concerning legal matters. Additionally, an A.L.S. 2pp. 8vo. with integral address leaf, [n.p.] Jan. 30, 1798 to the Reverend James Freeman, secretary of the Massachusetts Historical Society regretting that he would be unable to attend the "...meeting with the historical society today...I wish to be discharged from the committee appointed to petition for money expended to obtain a sample of a plate for the [illeg] of the state - I have signed so many Petitions lately to the General Court as agent to the canal...and other corporations that I am really reluctant to appearing again as a petitioner...". All three letters bear the usual folds, some marginal losses from seal tears, the third has a biography affixed, else very good condition.
