War date manuscript secretarial copy of a letter from Seddon, 1p. legal folio, Richmond, Apr. 13, 1864 to Col. Winchester Hall appointing him "...Colonel of Cavalry under Act Approved October 9th 1862 --- In the provisional Army of the Confederate States: to ranks such from the 6th day of April one thousand eight hundred & Sixty four. Should the Senate, at their next session advise and consent thereto, you will [be] commissioned accordingly...". Winchester Hall was wounded and captured at Vicksburg. Though he was paroled to Lafourche Parish, he was not exchanged as he refused to take the oath of allegiance. While on parole, Hall was assigned to court martial duty in Gen. S.D. Lee's Cavalry Division. Usual folds, light toning, else very good.
