(1758 - 1831) Fifth President of the United States who negotiated the Louisiana Purchase and promulgated the Monroe Doctrine. A.L.S. "Jas. Monroe" 1p. oblong 8vo., [n.p.] May 10, 1790, writing in full: "Mr. Lovell has settled my acct. ag[ai]nst Johnson & therein fix'd the price of tob[acc]o & in set a judgm[en]t be enter'd up for the account, & whatever discounts can be establish'd within 20 days with Mr. Lovell, or indeed if he can satisfy me of any for wh[ch] he has no vouchers, will be allowed by."
