JAMES MADISON
(1751-1836) Fourth President of the United States considered the "Father of the Constitution", he authored the Federalist papers and sponsored the Bill of Rights. Partly-printed D.S. "James Madison" as President, 1p. folio, Washington, Apr. 27, 1811 issued to James Goodday, master of the Brig Fox, bound from New York to Honduras, and "laden with Ashes, Coca, Coffee, Sugar... Cotton, Logwood... horns[,] bear skins" Countersigned by ROBERT SMITH as Secretary of State and " David Gelston" the Collector of the Port of New York. With near-perfect paper seal at left. Usual folds, light uneven toning, small loss at upper left not affecting text, else very good condition. Matted and framed. Not examined out of frame.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
